In-person events are back and with that, weddings are in full swing. If you are attending one this summer you might be looking for what to wear to these special occasions. After all, this is a chance to look good, have fun and celebrate an important life moment!

It’s always exciting to get an invitation to a wedding but the dress codes can sometimes be confusing. Just what do they mean by a semi-formal dress? Is there a difference between casual and smart casual style? What are the rules here anyway?

Well, things aren’t always clear and straightforward when it comes to dressing codes. But that shouldn’t scare you. Instead, think of the dress codes more as guidelines. Basically, they indicate the level of formality, so you might check out what’s appropriate and what’s not. If in any doubt, the best thing is to first check with the couple that invited you.

Now, there are many variations, yet generally, we can put dress codes under 6 big categories. Below, we explain and give you the best options for each.

But before we go on, there’s one more thing to keep in mind!

As with every special occasion, we might be looking for new outfits to shine in. However, this season, instead of spending money on something you’ll probably wear only once and that will clutter your wardrobe, why not rent the clothes? As the name says, this calls for a laid-back and easy dress. Often, beach or garden weddings call for a casual style. And while jeans, shorts and tank tops are in theory not off this code, a wedding still requires something more special. Besides, it’s your chance to wear something different and new! Maxi and sundresses are a perfect choice here, especially when paired with open sandals or platforms.

Smart casual can be a confusing code. It’s still an informal style but not as laid back as the first one. Usually, outdoor and daytime events opt for this style. Think of it as a chance to wear something elegant and trendy. Short and knee-length dresses can work well, as well as casual jumpsuits or nicer pants. Combine those with summer sandals but even dressy flats can go with this.

Elegance in a nutshell! This is a midi-length dress, with a slim fitting bodice and relaxed skirt. The slide slit gives it a fancy look and makes it more breathable for the summer. We especially like the emerald green version of this dress, which goes perfectly with some light or strappy heels.


### Cocktail Wedding

Many modern weddings call for cocktail style and for a good reason! When in doubt, the LBD (little black dress) is your friend! This one has a flattering silhouette and comes just above your knees. It’s a good balance between formal and casual and you can easily dress it up or down, with shoes and jewellery.


### Semi-formal Wedding

Sometimes also called Dressy Casual, this is a step towards formal wear. Often, evening events call for this code, though it’s not always the case. It’s a chance to put on nice clothes and still play with fun accessories. We suggest avoiding prints, going for more structured silhouettes and longer (but not floor length) dresses.

### Black Tie Wedding

We entered the fancy land here! Black Tie usually means formal, floor-length dresses. However, some like putting “Black Tie Optional” in their wedding invitations, which gives you more freedom. In those cases, a more sophisticated cocktail dress or a dressy jumpsuit can pass, especially if paired with nicer heels and elegant jewellery.

After months of rain and wind, the summer is finally setting in. The temperatures are going up and so are the lockdown restrictions. We don’t know about you but we are definitely ready for the brunches with friends, drinks on sunny terraces, long walks, and weekend getaways!

For all of that, we want to feel and look our best. Judging by some of the top fashion trends, this summer is promising lots of colours, retro prints, and bold shapes. However, this year, a good style isn’t enough. We want to wear clothes with meaning. We want to embrace ethical and sustainable fashion but still have fun with it.

So we decided to take the hottest summer 2021 trends and look for sustainable options. For each trend below, we found a piece from a sustainable brand or an independent designer we love. Oh, and one more thing: you can _rent_ some of these trends, making it a double win!
